LARGER CONTEXT

< Back
Larger context for  ACROSS

When fitting as in fig. 26b deduct a further 2.5cm (1in) to allow for the distance between the hook of the glider and the top of the lining.   Make up the lining in the same way as the curtains, but machine all hems.   Cut a length of lining tape approximately 8cm(3in) longer than the finished width of the lining.   Pull out 4cm ( 1 ½ in) of cords from one end and knot them together.   Trim 2cm (¾ in) from the tape.   Position this end to the leading edges of the lining.   Repeat at the other end but leave the cords free.   Sandwich the top of the lining between the two layers of the tape, turning the ends over twice to bring them level with the sides of the lining (fig. 27).   Pin and tack the tape in position.     Machine along the bottom edge of the tape, trapping the lining, and across the ends to neaten them off.     Pull up the lining to fit the size of the outer curtain and insert the curtain hooks, first into the lining tape then into the standard tape on the curtains to hang them on a conventional track.   In the case of fig. 26b, slot the curtain hook on the lining into the hole at the base of the hook glider.   The sides of the lining can be temporarily hand stitched to the sides of the curtain, if desired. 11 LINED CURTAINS With deep taped heading.
